Deja Vu (all over again)

DEJA VU (ALL OVER AGAIN)

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you try to read the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again

Day by day I hear the voices rising
Started with a whisper like it did before
Day by day we count the dead and dying
Ship the bodies home while the networks all keep score

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Could your eyes believe the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again

One by one I see the old ghosts rising
Stumblin' 'cross Big Muddy
Where the light gets dim
Day after day another Momma's crying
She's lost her precious child
To a war that has no end

Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you stop to read the writing at The Wall
Did that voice inside you say
I've seen this all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again
It's like Deja Vu all over again

The same lack of sophistication that allows this country to leap into such wars is the same lack that makes us totally fucking panic if someone gets hurt.
Lewis Black (Black on Broadway, HBO) has some great insight the American world-view.

Peace and freedom are valuable commodities. A very wise man once said, "You get what you pay for". What amount of those aforementioned valuable commodities will you recieve for no investment?

Our enemies in this war certainly do not lack resolve, the question is, do we? It would appear that large segments of our population have indeed grown too pampered to display the sort of resolve that is required to secure those commodities in abundance for our children.

Make no mistake, we are facing terrorists in Iraq. Whether that is by design or happenstance is of course up for debate, but denying the fact is irrational at best.

How many young man now lie buried on a cliff overlooking the beaches of Normandy? How many died on the fields of Gettysburg? How many men lost their lives in Korea or Vietnam? The casualty rate in this war has been relatively low compared to others. Every single life is of value, but that is often the investment that is required to secure peace and freedom.

I find it most repugnant that democrats, most of whom have never placed themselves in service of the country, would use the casualties for their political gain. Especially since the Democrats have for the most part, been the ones who've railed against military expenditures and now, as repugnant as they are, they are the ones trying to cast themselves in the role of care-takers of our troops.

Did you serve your country? If not, what makes you think you are remotely qualified to comment on military affairs? You certainly have the right to, that right was provided by those who did serve though.

It's just like the idiots that want to talk about gun control but have no idea about guns. They are functioning on an emotional level and not a rational one. While emotions are a necesary part of human existence it is hardly the best basis for governance.

That you end several paragraphs of emotional appeal with this statement, G-man, is, how should I say this, very modern of you.

Oh please, is there no hope for our nation!
