Be afraid, be very very afraid.

Feel the Hate
By PAUL KRUGMAN
Published: September 3, 2004

"I don't know where George Soros gets his money," one man said. "I don't know where - if it comes from overseas or from drug groups or where it comes from." George Soros, another declared, "wants to spend $75 million defeating George W. Bush because Soros wants to legalize heroin." After all, a third said, Mr. Soros "is a self-admitted atheist; he was a Jew who figured out a way to survive the Holocaust."

my name is Dennis Hastert, and I approved this ad...

Mr. Krugman rationalizes, finds some reason for Haster, for Gingrich, et al...
He misses the truth: these people believe what they are saying. And what's not true?
Maybe Soros is and atheist. Maybe he is/was a Jew. His money comes from overseas, surely some of it does. I don't know if he personally was in the Halocaust, but he obviously survived it.
He wants to legalize drugs (medical marijuana). He might get some money from people of similar beliefs, but I think he gives them the money. Heroine? I dunno, maybe. He wouldn't be the first.
See, it can be all true. But Krugman has the logic wrong:
First you hate, THEN you find "reasons", and then finally, anyone who fits those reasons can be hated.
First you hate a man, then you notice he's black, and then you decide if he's black, he must be bad. Then you teach your kids that black people are bad, and the kids absolutely accepts that as biological truth, it is not questioned any more that one puts ones hand in the fire to see if it really will burn!
