Tensions escalate between Israel and Iran

Iran threatens to attack Israel’s nuclear installations. Israel ominously warns that it “knows how to defend itself.” Tensions between the two archenemies, at odds for more than two decades, have suddenly escalated.

Iran is threated by the United States. (see "Axis of Evil". No, it is not a new comic book.) And Iran needs nuclear weapons to keep the US out and at bay. The logical thing to do is to threated an ally of the US, which is Israel. They cannot yet threated Iraq, because that would provoke a US response: our troops are there.
Israel is perhaps the only target Iran can use as a bargaining chip: if Israel threatens us, we will nuke them. If the US threatens us, we will nuke Israel.
I would suggest the Israel has enough to support the Mutual Assured Destruction end of their bargain: if you attack us, we might not survive. So, we guarantee, you will not either.
