NYTimes on Bush and Terror

Mr. Bush gave no specific timetable for when he might name someone to the position, and the White House did not answer questions on whether the legislation creating the job could be completed before November. But White House and Bush campaign officials have long said that the details matter far less than the pictures and sounds of Mr. Bush talking in any way about his campaign against terrorism, which polls show is still his strongest card against Mr. Kerry.

Mr. Bush has said a lot of things, all of which have either NOT been done or done badly.
However, a lot depends on what you read: if you do NOT read the WSJ editorials, for instance, or look at Fox news, you have no idea what the Bush supporters see. For instance, they absolutely eviscerate Tom Daschle as a completely spineless and partisan liberal Democrat. Really.
The other HUGE mistake: the 9/11 report is much more broad than "prepare to fight": it has extensive conclusions and recommendations on how to engage with the Muslim societies, and these are a "must do": the news, again, fails to inform Americans: you either read the report, or think the whole thing is "get a tzar to coordinate" and nothing more.
"Yeah, sure, sure, I'll get a tzar. BTW, thanks for another new budget item! Every dollar buys another vote!", says Bush to himself.
