This is the "Iowa Electronic Market", a real futures market that trades in things like election results, FED policy, the Google IPO outcome, etc. The stakes are small, maximum investment $500, which I think seriously limits the ability of this market to accurately predict an outcome.

The small stakes may actually improve the quality of the market. Small stakes prevent a few big plays from skewing the market.
