United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10

United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10: "The flag shall be flown at half-staff thirty days from the death of the President or a former President"

President Bush ordered the flag lowered for 11 days after Sept. 11, 2001

30 days for an old president. 11 days for 3000 Americans. Fair enough?

ummm, what is the proper ratio? 9000 days? Maybe just one year? Or until the war on terror is over? (Like, say, that war on drugs. Yeah, that's the way.)
(No, those are not interesting numbers)

It seems that the number of days is significant though. When was the last time the flag code required 1/2 mast flags on our Independence Day? That will be the case this year - in honor of 1 dead man. That just seems wrong. I'm not very patriotic, but I think the flag should fly high on the 4th of July. (I made a rhyme!)

THAT I agree on: on the 4th of July, the flag should be up, and stay up. And 30 days is a rather long time: how about 1 day? It was not a president in office. Given all the non dead presidents, we could end up with the g Cut short this process of returning to the days of King George.
Its the president, it is not the king.

By the way, I checked into the half-mast on the 4th of July and this will be the first time in our country's history that will have happened. Time for a change in the flag code.
