WHFS Changes Its Tune to Spanish

WHFS-FM, the Washington area radio station that was a pioneering purveyor of alternative rock to generations of young music fans, did a programming U-turn yesterday by ditching the genre for a Spanish-language, pop-music format that transforms it into the largest Spanish-language station on the local dial.

In an abiding interest in low wages, lawn care, car washing at low low prices, the Republican party leads the way to the sale the the United States. keeping the borders open (at the same time billions are spend to, ummm, close the borders to terrorists?) We can only hope that a revitalized Democratic Party under Howard Dean will end the pandering to cheap cheap cheap.
No, I don't think the latinization of the United States is a good thing. I do think the growing strength of South America thumbing its nose at the world bank is a good thing. Oil in Cuba! What else is next?

This quote from the article says it.

" ... Damian, a longtime on-air personality on WHFS, said yesterday that the station's reputation as a maverick programmer began to decline more than a decade ago, at the beginning of a rapid consolidation of ownership in the industry.

'They really weren't interested in the music anymore,' said Einstein, who was one of WHFS's best-known personalities and who is now the program director at WRNR-FM, a small alternative rock station in Annapolis. 'There really wasn't that much creativity there. Having been there for so long and having done so many things there, of course it's sad. But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.'"

As for "latinization", I don't have a problemo with it. What this nation needs is more latinization of its culture. Can we PLEASE get over Janet Jackson's boob? Right now we have a puritan resurgence (that is media driven just like everything else) that really sucks.

I don't think the Latin's were really pleased about Jackson's boob. The Latin's are anti choice, and anti gay. More Latinization? I don't think so.
The sheer numbers of Hispanics, bound by a different language, is Balkanizing the United States. Consider it a variety of out pro Israel "strategy". It's certainly a part of out anti Cuban strategy.
I don't care about color: I do care about culture, I do care about language. A recent interview in NY City of a fine Hispanic woman who has been here for 19 years: she does not speak English.
Is the United States not your house? Do you not treat your guests very very well? Do you not expect your guests to behave?
If you were in France, in Spain, in Germany: would you not speak the language? It is simply rude to NOT adopt your countries language. I have very low tolerance for ANY people who wish to be a guest in my house and not speak the language (which isn't like it isn't changing and adopting anyway)
Also note the observation of Chris Rock that that titty was a 40 year old titty... and that does NOT belong to the public. Now a 20 year old titty, that's something else. (Shades of National Geographic!)
This is economic immigration: keep the labor cheap, and by the way, screw the black man. Again.

The balkanization I see has nothing to do with language or latinization (the latin cultures are almost all very open, loud, and openly sexual cultures, as opposed to the more reserved, quite, and sexually deemphasized germanic culture.)

The balkanization I see is the stupid red-blue garbage of the power elite. A problem that is perpetuated via the media machine. I'd spend your energies on that one, not on restricting who can be an American.
