The right, as with so many insitutions, has its own science too. Follow the link to discover the true answers to the seven rightwing science myths.
"Condoms are full of holes"
"Phonics is the only effective way to teach reading"
"Abortion causes breast cancer"
"Remote prayer cures disease"
"Emergency contraception is a health hazard"
"Terri Schiavo could have gotten better"
"Humans are not descended from pre-human ancestors."
Of course the left had its huge science myth that I guess some still believe.
"History is predetermined"

how did phonics get in there? My experience with phonics and other languages and structures that have fairly consistent primitives is that they are easier to learn.
Just because the Christian loonies adopt something, doesn't make it ipso facto wrong: half of their shit is totally random, so some of their stuff could be totally right for the totally wrong reason
I have read that our "silent" reading can be slowed down by our inclination to sub-vocalize the words, imposing a physical limitation on that reading: there I would wonder: would a phonics reader have a tendency to "silent" read more slowly?
